Final Coat Varnish Tips: The Revolution Has
Begun...
Final Coat is a finishing product like no other. A beautiful, durable, furniture quality
finish with none of the problems associated with traditional varnishes and finishing
products and some unique qualities that make it an invaluable tool for the do-it
yourselfer, the crafter, and professional. Its ease of use and versatility will
convince you to try it. The Quality and Value will make it a staple in your home or
workshop.
Wear a disposable glove on your varnish hand to prevent wearing your varnish.
Decorative Artist and Crafters have come to rely on Final Coat for its ease of
application, fast drying time, and its virtually flawless finish. Its ability to
adhere to almost anything is another strong feature.
To Apply: Pour or spray (if using the trigger attachment) a small
amount of FINAL COAT into a clean barely damp applicator. Wipe gently over the surface you
wish to finish and allow it to dry. Apply several coats to seal, protect and beautify all
of your craft and decorative painting projects.
On Metal: For interior Decorative Metal Pieces use Final Coat as a
pre-sealer. Clean the metal surface well. Use TSP and some fine steel wool to clean the
surface. (All the oils and debris must be removed or sealers will not bond well.) Wipe on
one or two coats of Final Coat and allow it dry. Over night is best, and then begin
painting. When painting is finished apply two or three coats of Final Coat over the entire
surface. To finish and protect your work.
On Fabric:
Try it mixed with your acrylic paint instead of Fabric Mediums for your painted clothing.
The painted fabric will remain flexible and washable while the colors remain brilliant!
Paint vinyl, canvas, or even leather and seal with Final Coat for a durable and flexible
Finish!
On Floor Cloths:
When you have painted your floor cloths, use Final Coat to seal and protect your
paintwork. For a durable finish apply several coats of Final Coat, by wiping it on with
a damp cloth. If the cloth begins to show signs of wear and tear, scuff the surface with a
fine Sanding sponge, wipe it clean then apply a fresh coat of Final Coat to refresh the
finish. Final Coat remains flexible and doesnt yellow and is ideal for this
application.
On Candles:
To paint on candles, first wash the surface with rubbing alcohol. Allow the candle to dry,
then wipe on one coat of Final Coat. Allow the candle to dry. Paint as usual. Once the
painting is complete and dry. Wipe two to three coats of Final Coat over the Candle. (Be
sure to omit the Wick area.) You can safely burn the candle. The finish falls away with
the paint as the candle burns.
As Antiquing Medium:
Fill an empty paint bottle with Final Coat; add a few drops of acrylic paint (any color
you choose). Apply it with a damp cotton cloth. Because the color builds up gradually, you
have great control. And the finish remains translucent. You can add special effects by
working in swirls around the edges of the surface you are antiquing, applying a few coats
in this manner will give the edges of your project a smoky look.
And as an added bonus... when youre done antiquing . . . Youre done varnishing
too!
As A Varnish:
Pour or spray a small amount of Final Coat into a barely damp lint free cloth (Old
T-shirts are perfect) or a soft barely damp applicator. Wipe the surface you wish to
varnish with the cloth, covering the entire surface. Allow it to dry. Final Coat dries in
three to five minutes; there is no sanding required between coats.
Once the first coat is dry you may apply a second. Three coats will give you a Fine Semi
Gloss Finish. You may continue to apply coats in this manner to build up the finish, but
two layers are enough to seal, protect and beautify your work.
Final Coat is extremely durable, and has excellent abrasion resistance when fully cured.
It can also be applied over existing finishes, For this, simply clean the surface with a
wash of TSP, lightly sand with fine sanding sponge or sand paper, wipe clean. Then apply
Final Coat in the same manner as described above. When pieces begin to show wear and
tear.... Refresh them with Final Coat!
Over Genesis Heat Set Oils:
Final Coat is fantastic over Genesis Heat Set Oils. Be sure that the paint is COMPLETELY
dry. Then wipe on one or two thin coats of Final Coat and allow it to dry. You may find
that patting on the first layer with very little Final Coat in your applicator works best.
Let dry and continue to wipe on another layer for a perfect finish on your painting. If
you prefer a matte finish use the Final Coat Low-Gloss formula. That Simple!
Over Pigma Pens:
This is a question most often heard from artisans. ... They worry that wiping Final Coat
over the Pigma Pen will smudge the ink. To avoid this, allow the ink to dry over night,
then PAT a coat of Final Coat over the inked area only first. When that is dry... apply
Final Coat as usual.
For Home Improvement and General Purposes:
Final Coat is perfect for home improvement projects as well. To finish or refresh,
baseboards, doors, cabinetry, or furniture, clean the surface to remove any dirt or oils,
and lightly sand with fine sandpaper. Spray (if using the trigger sprayer attachment) or
pour a small amount of Final Coat into a clean damp applicator. Wipe a coat over the
entire surface and allow it to dry. Apply several coats allowing each to dry before
applying the next.
Tint a small amount of Final Coat with the color of your choice using small amounts of
acrylic paint, UTCs or dry pigments, and shake well. Use the tinted Final Coat to
disguise irregularities, scratches or to balance the tone of the surface you are
finishing.
To touch up scratches or dings in your furniture and other wood
pieces.... Lightly sand the area that you want to touch up, apply several coats of the
Tinted Final Coat(above) to just that area and allow it to dry, then to balance the finish
apply two or three coats over the entire surface. Once that is dry, give the surface a
couple of coats of Clear Final Coat to the entire surface.
Are your countertops looking a bit dull? Did you paint or do a Faux
Finish on countertops or furniture? Is the coffee table looking a bit tired? How about
your shoes? Final Coat will give them all the quality finish they need!
Apply the Final Coat with a barely damp lint free cloth. Use at least five layers being
certain each layer is thoroughly dry before applying the next layer.
Staining and Coloring:
You can stain, seal and finish your wood projects using Tinted Final Coat. Pour or spray
(if using the trigger attachment) some Tinted Final Coat into a clean damp applicator and
wipe it on.
By applying layers of color and building UP to the finish you want, Final Coat leaves you
in control! It works excellent on a wide variety of wood surfaces and types.
For Automotive Uses:
Is the Vinyl in your car looking a bit worse for wear? What about your tires? Your Leather
or vinyl upholstery? Final Coat is the Perfect choice!!!
Pour or spray (if using the trigger sprayer) Final Coat into a clean damp applicator and
wipe onto your seats, dashboards, yes, even the tires! Final Coat leaves it all with a
lovely luster with no residue. It remains flexible and pliable and doesn'tt crack,
blister or peel. Use it tinted to balance or return color to worn areas, or to change the
look entirely.
Murals: Use Low-Gloss Final Coat when painting Murals. Leaves a
lovely matte finish with no glare! A hard durable finish easily cleans with a damp cloth
and mild soap.
No drips, runs or brush stokes. No waste low odor and fast drying. Simples wipe-on
application just like the Original. No Fancy applicators or brushes required. Once you
have tried it.... You'll wonder what you ever did without it! Imagine...The Possibilities.

this piece look wonderful!! It had lost it's "life" and this Final Coat brought
back it's beautiful luster!!!! Also, wanted to thank you soooooo much for the Tolefriends
discount....helped me out a lot! And your quick service is great...won't hesitate to order

- "I meant to tell you that I love the Final Coal. I gave your card to some of my
friends/students and I am sure they will be calling you. I varnished a large Victorian
bentwood box to be used as one of the table centerpieces at our Chapter's annual
luncheon/auction. It was so easy, fast and the finish is beautiful. Thanks for sharing on
Tolefriends and for processing my order so quickly! " Judy Davis
- HI Gang Been busy this past few months so I haven't been responding to much of what I am
reading on Tolefriends but like to share when I can. Saw the note about Final Coat on
vinyl and wanted share that I have covered my Moms floor with it and it looks great. This
floor is only 5 years old and she was 'convinced' by a housekeeper (who no longer works
there)that using mop and glow on this floor would make it easy for Mom to clean. (Mom is
78). Anyway to make a long story short the floor was ruined in no time with this crap just
moving the dirt around, yellowing the floor and having the dirt settle in the little
texture areas of the floor. After stripping this floor, we put a couple coats of Final
Coat on it and it is back to new! Looks great and is wearing well. Gotta love that stuff
huh? I'd use it on my face if I thought it would 'preserve it'! Hugs, Moe Shier, ON/CAN -

FINI Faux Glazing Medium
Tips and Techniques
FINI is our Faux Finishing Glazing Medium.... It is also very useful as an
extender, and float medium. Keep an eggcup full of FINI next to you while painting. Keep a
container of clean water to rinse your brushes with! Rinse your brushes frequently in
water but when loading or thinning paint using the FINI.
For floating it is Ideal. Simply dip the brush in FINI (instead of water) side load your
shader (or filbert) with paint, work the brush back and forth until a smooth transition of
colour is achieved then FLOAT! You should be able to pull the float the entire distance
with no stop and start marks. Nothing but a smooth even Float! (Excellent for beginners to
get the feel of floating) It also makes WALKING a float much easier.
Use FINI to thin your paint instead of water. (Thinning with water compromises the
durability of the paint as well as reducing the density of the pigment.) By using FINI one
can thin the paint AND maintain its strength, and colour intensity. ((I find I have to
reload the brush much less than usual. I have filled half of an 81/2 x 11 inch sheet of
paper with comma strokes with a single brush load. The colour never faded out. .1 just
eventually just ran out of paint.)) This is fantastic for painting fine lines or tiny
tendrils and vines.
One of the biggest benefits to using FINI over water is its leveling properties. . Paint
thinned out with Fini retains fewer brush marks, leaving the painter with a smooth even
surface to Finish with Final Coat.
For Stenciling, FINI is fantastic! Use it with your regular acrylics. Moisten a small
cloth (Cotton T-shirt) with FINI, in an empty paint bottle mix several drops of paint in
your choice of colour, add an ounce or two of FINI and shake well. Pour a small amount of
the tinted Fini into your moistened Cloth. The cloth should be wet but not saturated. To
apply the colour. Simply wipe from the outside edge into the center of the motif you can
continue to apply colour in layers, or allow the Motif to dry with the stencil in place
then repeat using another colour to create special effects.
For example:
The Blossom area of a given motif is done using two quick coats of Gooseberry Pink. At the
base of the Petals where the stem joins, Lightly rub upwards toward the tips of the petals
with cranberry wine, this will create a nice shaded area. To create a touch of light on
the tips of the petals, repeat the process working down towards the base of the petals
with White Pearl. (Base coat, shade and Highlight with out moving the stencil!
Fini Glazing Medium dries absolutely matte. Wonderful to use for murals for floating,
glazing, faux finishes, etc. No more hi/low sheen spots on your work. Use Fini when
painting Murals to thin your paint and for doing floats. Leaves a matte finish with no
glare! Use Fini instead of water to thin your paint when doing stroke-work and line-work,
you will find your strokes and lines go on smoother and self level. You'll be amazed at
how far one load will go.
Use Fini instead of water to thin your paint when basecoating. The Fini will make the
paint go on so smoothly and will also self-level as it dries. No more sanding down paint
ridges!
Once you have used FINI instead of water, youll never go back to using water!
FINI is the most revolutionary Extender you have ever used!
